How to fix broken springs on IKEA Ektorp sofa

 I have one of these:

A reasonably comfortable couch from IKEA. Unfortunately the springs were attached to the frame using plastic clips and very weak "nails" that are impossible to reuse. You can see the sole remaining clip in the middle and my homemade fix on each side.

I used something I think is called "fixing band" and some wood screws. 

By using longer straps than strictly necessary, is was easy to pull the strap behind the wooden beam to get the desired tension and fasten it at the same time with the electric screwdriver.
